Washington D.C. Trainer Takes Her ‘Power of Love’ on the Road
When Washington A-listers want personal training or private yoga sessions, they often seek out a woman who describes herself on Facebook as Shadow Hunter at the Planet Earth or Magician at the Malmaison event space. For someone who calls herself a working girl from the other side of the tracks, Pari Bradlee is more than a yoga teacher, she is also a connector known for her fierce loyalty and commitment to ministering to the whole person.
Bradlee, who friends describe as an introverted, ‘old soul’ with an outsized audience, operates in the political climate of Washington, D.C., where business is described as ‘blood sport.’ “Yoga is a tool, a series of techniques, but it I am also promoting a natural, healthier lifestyle for the body and mind. Many people, especially high achievers, are actually very lonely. You can be lonely in a crowd, as the expression says. You can also be lonely in a marriage. We don’t touch each other enough, love each other deeply enough, or give each other permission to be who we really are. As someone said, ‘We are only as sick as our secrets.'”
A yoga session with Bradlee involves far more than stretches and poses; she is known as a magician for good reason. “I surround people with candles and scents and a lot of love,” Bradlee says. She uses aromatherapy, music, and a secret blend of herbs and potions to help people escape the asphalt jungle and experience the rhythm of their bodies and minds.” “Modern people are broken and I want to help them heal again,” Bradlee enthuses.
Bradlee and a west coast friend, Daniel Johnson, aim to begin taking that healing message to the masses beginning with their first Desert Advance near Phoenix, Arizona later this year. According to Johnson, the time is right: “I have always wanted to create a place where people could come and be completely themselves. People don’t get along with each other because they don’t get along with themselves. Consensus reality is an unbelievably strong force in society and shame, guilt, and loneliness are hallmarks of the modern world. Pari and I share a desire to create a safe place where people can spend a few days getting well again. Not to mention eating great food and connecting with interesting humans who can become like family. And the idea of creating an intentional community of affordable and sustainable living has growing appeal to a lot of people.”
The date of the first event will be announced in mid-April, but both Bradlee and Johnson are quietly taking names. The idea of putting a few dozen diverse people together in an environment of love, acceptance, and forgiveness is something Johnson and his friend, Seattle film and event producer, Jim Angelo have talked about for years. Desert Advance 1 will feature the behind the scenes design of Angelo and Johnson and the magic of Bradlee. “I can’t wait,” Bradlee said, “Let the healing (and the love and the fun) begin.”
